I’ve had the pleasure of working with many writers over the years. Here’s what just a few of them have to say about my editorial services.
On Tales To Count On – Good editors and formatters are hard to find. Sloppy grammar detection, unhelpful or non-existent observations, a disregard for the author’s ‘voice,’ careless formatting, and slow responsiveness to emails sometimes feels like the norm these days. NOT so with P. C. Zick! Her grammatical fine-tooth combing, her insights into character development and illogical thoughts, her respect for my voice, her effort to get the formatting right no matter what, and her always, always being available at the drop of a hat, has made an often complicated and arduous process smooth and enjoyable. I HIGHLY recommend her!
On The Dolan Girls – When I submitted my The Dolan Girls manuscript to the literary-seasoned Pat Zick, I knew from my past experience with her that she’d be extremely helpful and responsive to whatever I didn’t understand or was reluctant to change. But this time, in addition to her usual fine edits, I was flabbergasted at how much I learned about POV and romance character building. From her specific POV examples and suggestions on how to use them, to her repeated, “What is she/he feeling here?” and “Let us into her/his mind and heart here” her insightful input was absolutely perfect. Recommend? Highly!
When I first reached out to Patricia Zick, I thought I had a book, but she taught me that I only had a good start. With her sometimes blunt guidance, she took me from writing an unorganized short story to producing a complete memoir of my life. I’m very proud of the end product. Often times, it seemed that Patricia was more attentive and enthusiastic about producing a quality product than I was. She encouraged me and challenged me to keep working on improving my work.
There is no way that I could have maneuvered all the phases of formatting, design, and numerous other steps, and fortunately, I didn’t have to. Patricia was able to take a guy like me with a good story, but with no writing history and as Internet-challenged as any guy my age can be, and turn me into an author with my book on Internet shelves. Thank you, Pat.

I hired P.C. Zick to edit On Lucky Shores–my first U.S.-set novel–after receiving a sample edit of my first chapter together with a very competitive quote. The fact that she was familiar with Colorado, the setting for the book, was another point in her favour. Pat’s editorial work (which included ‘translating’ the book from UK into U.S. English), was invaluable, comprehensive, thorough, and completed to the agreed deadline. She helped me with the detail as well as the overview and pointed out many things I didn’t know about writing for the U.S. audience. I have no hesitation in recommending her work.

“I’ve used Patricia Zick’s services not once but twice. Now that should tell you how effective Patricia is. She’s a highly capable editor who really cares. Simply put…she made my first novel better. As a result, it won four literary awards. Glimpse of Sunlight, released in March 2014, has won several awards. If you’re like me and need a seasoned, award-winning professional editor, put Patricia on your production team. She’ll exceed your expectations. It’s a privilege to work with her.”
Patricia Zick formatted my new cookbook, Cuban Rice Classics, for Create Space. Her patience with me as I tried to understand the whole process made it painless and even understandable. I highly recommend her for any editing or formatting jobs if you enjoy working with a personable and competent professional.

Through P.C. Zick’s questions and comments, she is helping me develop not only stronger characters but she is also teaching me to explore all possible plots–even ones I never thought of–to create a more engaging story.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with editor and author Patricia Zick since she gave me my first big break as a writer in 2005. I have always been impressed with her knowledge, passion, attention to detail and willingness to work with me as a writer to make the story as good as it can be.”
